Retailers combat the harmful effects of light striking food products in display cases. The
shrinkage can be so severe it can lead to the shut down of a fresh operation or revamping
programs due to unsustainable losses (shrinkage) caused by uncontrolled lighting systems.

In attempt to reduce shrinkage and control costly situations retailers resort to stocking products with more
preservatives, induced injections and gas packing such as nitrite — GIVING UP NATURALLY FRESH
PRODUCTS. The damaging effects of light still takes place to all foods, beverages, beer, meats, juice, milk,
cheese and so on.

For retailers the revolving problem
continues. Stores still build and
renovate falling into the old cycle of
excessive losses (shrinkage).
Light damage is an ongoing cycle
with higher consumer cost, poorer
quality and Public Safety concerns.
This is often ignored by major
retailers who are not informed to the
facts of light damaging effects to our
foods.
Retailers continue to purchase costly
equipment with high expectations for
fresh deli product lines and increased
sales, but often with unsatisfactory
results, as customer quality
satisfaction declines and shrinkage
becomes unsustainable. Some
retailers abandon their fresh product
lines for bottled beverages.
Many C– Store Deli’s quickly became or
will become a thing of the past. Many
have in common the brutal effects of
modern lighting systems. Regardless of
the size of your operation and product
turns, the light plays a major roll in
shrinkage, including poor product
quality and loss of profitability.
.Display lights do change product quality, even
with advanced packaging technology. All foods
are effected depending on the time of exposure,
in convenience stores or full-size supermarkets.
